In our constant pursuit to make the Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival the premiere running event in the nation, Corrigan Sports Enterprises has implemented a green initiative for the first time.

Spearheaded by Under Armour along with vital cooperation from our other sponsors and city agencies, we know this giant undertaking will result in a signifi cant impact on Baltimore and all of its vibrant neighborhoods that support this massive undertaking each and every
year. Some of our green initiatives include:

GEAR
The 100% Recycled UNDER ARMOUR CATALYST T!
Constructed with fabric made from 100% recycled materials – recycled bottles – the Catalyst sets the precedent for green gear that performs.

WASTEmarathon-bin-samples-
Recycling and Composting!

  • Waste stations will be set up for recycling Plastic Bottles, Cardboard, Paper, Glass, Pallets, Heatsheets, Bibs and for composting Gatorade Cups, Water Cups, Food Waste, Plates and Utensils.

Leftover Food!

  • All leftover food from the Celebration Village will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank.

Apparel Recycling!Trade-In Event

  • All apparel discarded at the starting line will be collected and donated to the Helping Up Mission, which supports Baltimore’s homeless.

Footwear Recycling!

  • Recycled shoes will be donated to those in need through Soles4Souls.

PRINT MATERIAL

Online Confirmation Book!

  • Instead of printing and shipping the runner’s race-book, this year it has been posted online.

Recycled Printed Materials!

  • The Running Festival program is printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper, courtesy of Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine
  • Most of the brochures and other printed materials need for the race are printed on recycled paper as well.
  • Many of the Runner’s Goodie Bag items provided our sponsors will be either reusable, such as the gloves provided by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and the wristbands provided by GEICO, or printed on recycled paper. In fact, the Goodie Bags themselves contain post-consumer recycled material and can be reused following the race.

Renewable Energy!

  • In cooperation with Sunbelt Rentals, the Runner’s Village and Celebration Village will be powered by renewable biodiesel energy.

Hybrid Media Vehicles!Prius

  • Courtesy of Toyota, this year’s lead vehicles will be the hybrid Prius and other hybrid models.

Carbon Offsets!

  • Through Native Energy, runners have the opportunity to purchase carbon credits, to offset the carbon emissions from their travel and lodging.

WATERAF-DomeCycle

  • AquaFina, our water partner at the Finish Line –– will provide runners with their
    Eco-Fina water bottles, which contain 50% less plastic than their predecessors. In addition, AquaFina will help us to conduct our post-race recycling efforts of these bottles as well as our other waste.
  • Deer Park, who will be supplying our on-course water for consumption and mixing Gatorade, has one of the lightest environmental footprints of any packaged beverage company in North America.
  • All cups for both water and Gatorade will be able to be composted

LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

Trees along the racecourse!

  • In honor of the 1st GREEN Baltimore Marathon, Under Armour, tTree Baltimorehe Baltimore TreeBaltimore Program, and the Parks & People Foundation will plant tree along the race course that will one day provide shade to our runners and will immediately beautify the community and help to clean our air and water.

CERTIFICATION

ReSport Certification!

The Baltimore Running Festival is seeking green event certification from the Council for Responsible Sport.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Recycle and Compost Everything!Zero-Waste-Sign-Sample-Marathon-SM

Use the Recycle and Compost bins throughout the racecourse and celebration village. If you aren’t sure what goes where, ask a UA GREEN volunteer next to the bins.

Leave the car at home by taking the Lightrail or share a ride!

If you’re from the area, ride Light Rail.  Light Rail will begin running as early as 6am on race day and parking is free at stations that provide parking.  More info is available at

Recycle your Shoes & Clothing!

Bring the shoes you no longer wear, or recycle your marathon shoes with Soles 4 Souls (www.soles4souls.com). Look for the dropoff outside of the expo!

Bring clothes for all ages to donate to the Helping Up Mission so they can reuse them for those in need. Look for the dropoff outside of the expo!
