Marathon
The Under Armour Baltimore Marathon
Last year’s course brought positive responses from the running community. Slight modifications have been made to the 2009 course with the opening of the Hilton Convention Center Hotel. The course will still travel through the many diverse neighborhoods including the scenic Inner Harbor waterfront area, historic Federal Hill and charming Fells Point. The loop around Lake Montebello will also remain giving runners flat terrain near mile 21.
The half-marathon will again start at the 13-mile mark of the marathon course, but as it has done in the past, it will split after 2/10 mile (half-marathoners will have their own lane to that point) and will rejoin the marathon route later in the race. The separation between the marathon and half-marathon courses alleviates much of the congestion at the merge point and make for a smoother transition. ALSO, marathon participants will wear a "FULL" bib and team relay participants will wear a "R" bib on their backs to distinguish them form the half-marathon participants.
Date: Saturday, October 10, 2009
Race Start: 8:00 AM
Start Line: Russell and Camden Streets
Race Limit: 4,000
Restrictions: 1) Participants in the Marathon must be at least 16 years old and 2) Participants must be able to complete the course in 7 hours.
Chip Timing: In 2009, the event utilized a new timing technology. The new system, which replaces ChampionChip, will utilize a light-weight disposable timing tag that will come attached to your race number. On race day, runners simply secure the D-Tag through their shoelaces and they are ready to run.
The D-tag technology offers runners a more streamlined race experience than the traditional chip system. D-Tags are attached to participant bib and clearly marked with the corresponding bib number. This eliminates the need to scan your chip at the expo. In addition, runners do not need to return the tag and can dispose of it at their convenience. This means no more sitting down to undo your shoe lace just after your run and it also means you no longer have to worry about the $30 charge for a lost chip.
Amenities: Runners participating in the Under Armour Baltimore Marathon will receive the following:

Gatorade:
Gatorade Endurance Formula (Lemon-Lime flavor) will be served at each aid station along the course of this year’s race. Gatorade Endurance Formula is a specialized sports drink that contains approximately twice the amount of sodium (200 mg per 8 ounces) of Gatorade Thirst Quencher, along with chloride, potassium, magnesium and calcium to help sustain hydration by more fully replacing what is lost in sweat. Gatorade Endurance Formula also contains a 6% carbohydrate solution (14 grams per 8 ounces), just like Gatorade Thirst Quencher, which research shows is optimal to help speed fluid back into the body and fuel working muscles. Gatorade Endurance Formula is available in 34 ounce and 24 ounce sport bottles at major grocery and convenience stores nationwide, and Gatorade Endurance Formula powder is available at specialty athletic stores and at www.gatorade.com/endurance. For more information about Gatorade Endurance Formula, please visit www.itsonthecourse.com.
PowerBar:
PowerBar (Vanilla Crisp & Peanut Butter) and PowerBar Gel (Vanilla) are the official Energy Supplements of the Baltimore Running Festival. Carbohydrates are the body’s main source of energy during exercise. However, it has been long believed that there is a limit to the rate at which the body can absorb carbs and utilize energy from ingested carbohydrates. But now, breakthrough research shows that consuming a specific ratio of glucose and fructose carbohydrates can increase the rate at which the body can utilize ingested carbohydrate energy by 20-55% versus glucose alone(1). A recent study has shown that consuming this specific carbohydrate blend could help improve endurance performance by up to 8% in trained athletes(2). POWERBAR® Performance (to energize), POWERBAR® Gel (to replenish) now feature the power of the new POWERBAR® C2 MAX optimized carbohydrate ratio – taking sports to a whole new level. Science proves it. POWERBAR® with C2 MAX has it. To Read more about, visit here.
