NEWEST TIMING TECHNOLOGY COMES TO BALTIMORE
D-Tag Timing Responder Will Add to Everyone's Convenience
Baltimore prides itself in being one of the most runner and fan friendly events on the Fall race calendar and the latest addition should not do anything to hurt that reputation. In 2008, the event will utilize a new timing technology.
The new system, which replaces ChampionChip, will utilize a light-weight disposable timing tag that will come attached to your race number. On race day, runners simply secure the D-Tag through their shoelaces and they are ready to run.
The D-tag technology offers runners a more streamlined race experience than the traditional chip system. D-Tags are attached to participant bib and clearly marked with the corresponding bib number. This eliminates the need to scan your chip at the expo and allows race volunteers to distribute the race bibs at a much quicker rate. This area has always been one of the slower parts of the packet pickup experience and should move much faster in 2008.
In addition to the faster expo process, D-Tags also make things easier after crossing the finish. Runners do not need to return the tag and can dispose of it at their convenience. This means no more sitting down to undo your shoe lace just after your run and it also means you no longer have to worry about the $30 charge for a lost chip.
We hope this change will enhance the race day experience for everyone. Detailed instructions on how to attach the D-Tag will be available on our website and again at the expo.
NOTE
: If you own a personal ChampionChip and provided that chip number at registration, it WILL NOT WORK with the new system. Therefore you must use the D-Tag provided.
The D-Tag timing system will allow us to post results throughout the day on our website. Friends and family who are not running and have access to a computer can "track" a runner utilizing the RESULTS page of the website. As runners cross the various split mats on the course, their time to that point wil be posted your along with pace and expected finish time.
After the race, runners can get a print out of their finishing time at the Results Tent located in the Celebration Village. Just present your bib number and you will have instant copy of your results! (Available for Marathon and Half-Marathon runners only.)
